Marafa Watch “U.S. Friends of Marafa Committee”

“Marafa Watching” Expands on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Last week a delegation of the “U.S. Friends of Marafa Committee” (USFMC), accompanied by the political prisoner’s lead defense counsel, Professor Ndiva Kofele-Kale, completed multiple days of meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. with congressional committee and U.S. State Department experts on foreign and/or African affairs.  The intense lobbying began with a stimulating, early morning interview aired live on D.C.’s Metro Watch at WPFW 89.3 [USFMC interview starts at approx. 15:00].  The ever dynamic host, Ms. Gloria Minott, spoke first with Professor Kofele-Kale and then with USFMC representative, attorney Zena Crenshaw-Logal.

Professor Kofele-Kale introduced the WPFW audience to the ongoing legal difficulties and persecution of Minister Marafa.  Attorney Crenshaw-Logal foreshadowed what the USFMC would be emphasizing before congressional committee representatives and top government officials.  The USFMC subsequently hand-delivered to both U.S. Senate and House representatives as well as State Department representatives documents detailing the “overriding threat to ‘world stability, peace, and development’ presented by . . . two things:  (a).  the ongoing imprisonment by the Republic of Cameroon of our ally, former Secretary-General at the Presidency of Cameroon, Mr. Marafa Hamidou Yaya; and (b). the related attempts by top ranking Republic of Cameroon officials to mock American taxpayers and some of their prime public and private institutions for addressing international conflict − namely our U.S. State Department, the U.S. Embassy at Yaoundé, our federal court system, and some of our most influential major media outlets”.

The USFMC delegation ended its Capitol Hill tour with assurances that Marafa has not been forgotten by U.S. leaders.
